With over 25 years of Cardiology experience, I have been practicing as a Consultant Cardiologist in UK for over 21 years, in a diverse clinical and other roles and completed 20 years at my current NHS Trust in June 2024.
The wide scope my work has ranged from general cardiology, diagnostic Invasive/Non-Invasive Cardiology to Interventional Cardiology, including elective coronary angioplasty and serving on the regional heart attack service (Primary Angioplasty), pacemakers, defibrillators and newer ways of assessments like Cardiac CT.
Over the years, I have led and participated in several initiatives to improve patient pathways and reduce waiting times for
patients.
I am one of the regional training programme directors (TPD) for the Foundation Trainee doctors, besides serving as an Hon Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of
Leeds. I also undertake clinical and educational supervision, teaching / training and mentoring of junior doctors, speciality trainees, and providing career counselling. I run training workshops for
Supervisors and cross continental inter-professional teaching / training.
This year (2022) I received the prestigious "V Parameshwara Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Association of Physicians of India (API). Previously I received an individual award for excellence in Teaching from University of Leeds Medical School for 2015 and was also nominated for the "Best Clinical Teacher of the Year" by the Leeds Medical Students Union in 2015. Currently I am the TPD co-ordinator for the Regional Teaching Programme for Foundation Year 2 doctors across Leeds/MidYorks/Harrogate. I run and self manage a Teaching support site for Foundation Trainees across West Yorkshire (www.wyftp.co.uk) with a youtube site with opensource teaching resources.
I was part of the faculty for Barbara Hepworth Lecture Series, 2015-16, speaking on : "How to give back to communty along side a busy job" with good feedback from sixth form students at WGSF, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I also provide bespoke work experience programmes and run medical interview courses for medical school aspirants, with good outcomes.
As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK, (now called Advanced HE) I aim to enhance the standards of medical and interprofessional education (IPE) and now Intergenerational education (IGE), a big challenge. I am also a member of the National Association of Clinical Tutors (NACT) annd recently been appointed Deputy Rep to represent Yorkshire and Humber in the rebranded NACT (MEL-UK), a voluntary role, and a big honour. This year (2023) I will receive the coveted fellowship in medical education form AoME (FAcadMEd) and FICCDMD from Indian College of Cardiodiabetes and Metabolic Diseases.
I am a qualified Coach for NHS England Yorkshire & Humber and NEYLA, helping trainees, colleagues in need and have completed level-5 certifiation from the Institute of Learning and Management (ILM), UK. I am actively providing face to face / phone / online coaching/mentoring to trainees, colleagues, friends and family with positive outcomes and good feedback. I enjoy excellent reputation in the region with patients & GPs and have always strived hard to provide highest possible level of care to my patients, both on the NHS & Private sector. I am grateful to colleagues and patients for their support. We are now quite established with electronic consultations for our GPs, available on the NHS, and community diagnostic pathways for various cardiac conditions.

I regularly provide second opinion to patients who wish to re-discuss their condition/problems trying to look for further options. I see and
consult International patients traveling to the UK.
With a passion for teaching, training and international exchange of knowledge, I often travel to attend meetings / conferences and present my views on various topics as invited faculty, or for my own
professional development.
Besides my work, I run our own charity for the poorest heart patients in my home state of Bihar, India, visiting at least twice/thrice a year to deliver Community Cardiology Programme and other activities, with a remote monthly clinic. Details can be found on www.hridayamfoundation.com.

My other intersts include listening to music (80s/90s rock/metal), traveling, driving holidays, cooking, gadgets, photography and above all, living life to the fullest.
My wife Smita is a local GP and we have a wonderful daughter called Anshini, studying Medicine.
